Snapes point, near Salcombe 

Get away from the hustle and bustle of Salcombe and explore Snapes Point, with its unique 360 degree views of the spectacular Salcombe estuary and captivating birdlife.

Park at Snapes car park near Lincombe, TQ8 8NQ and follow footpath signs.

Bolberry Down, near Salcombe 

This is the starting point for discovering spectacular coastal walks between Salcombe and Hope Cove. A level and surfaced circular trail through the downs offers easy access to sea views and wild flowers carpeting the cliffs.

For something more challenging, you can follow the coast path east towards Salcombe, past East Soar and Overbeck's. Discover the remote sandy beach at Soar Mill Cove less than a mile from the car park, or head west to Bolt Tail and you'll cross the ramparts of an Iron Age fort.

Mill Bay Walk, East Portlemouth.

Leave the Salcombe crowds behind and take shady, woodland paths to quiet sandy coves. The path climbs to the old lookout at Gara Rock, where you can rest and enjoy a bite to eat at the restaurant before returning back over the fields.

Use passenger ferry from Salcombe and follow signs for Gara Rock. 

Start Point Walk, near Kingsbridge 

A perfect route for children, who will love this short but adventurous walk over a dragon's tail of spiny crags. There are wide-ranging views over the wide sweep of Start Bay as you drop down to the lighthouse at the tip of Start Point, and then the path travels over rock and coastal heathland to a secluded sandy beach, reached only on foot from the Coast Path. On a good day, it is the perfect place for a picnic. (Use sat nav, Start Point Car Park and follow signs , TQ7 2ET). 

Ayrmer Cove walk, near Bigbury.

Explore the beauty and remoteness of the Ringmore Valley on a journey through old smugglers' lanes down to an unspoilt, secluded cove, boasting magnificent coastal views. Return through fields with views across to Bigbury and Burgh Island. If you have time, enjoy a pint in the charming Journeys End Inn.

Use national trust car park in Ringmore and follow footpath signs ( for Sat Nav TQ7 4HR).

Noss Mayo Walk 

A lovely walk all year round with plenty to see from stunning coastal views, woodlands leading right down to the estuary edge and the beautiful village of Noss Mayo. Pop into the Ship Inn, an upscale foodie pub. Walk is a 4 mile circular. Park at Warren car park and follow footpath signs. ( PL8 1EW for sat nav).

Avon Dam, Dartmoor 

Avon Dam Reservoir is situated in beautiful open moorland on South Dartmoor – a wonderful location for some picturesque walks. Pushchair and bike friendly. To get to the reservoir, head to Shipley Bridge, where you will find car parking,provided by Dartmoor National Park. (Use Sat Nav TQ10 9ED)
